Elongated paddle

An elongated paddle stretches the standard pickleball paddle shape lengthwise while narrowing the width, all while staying within the combined length and width limits set for the sport. The extra length adds reach on wide shots and extra leverage for power, at the cost of paddle face area.

Players who struggle to get to wide balls, or who want more pop on drives and serves, often try an elongated shape for the added reach and swing leverage. The tradeoff is that the wider, sometimes more forgiving standard shape gives up in exchange, since the sweet spot on an elongated paddle is generally smaller and set further from the handle.

A mistake newer players make is choosing an elongated paddle for the extra power before they have consistent contact, since a smaller sweet spot punishes off center hits more than a wider standard shape does. It also raises swing weight, which can slow down quick net exchanges and blocks if the added weight sits too far from the handle.
